Official brevet control times

Enter your controls and their declared distances. You get the official opening time, closing time and latest safe departure for every one of them, in the event’s own local time. No account, and nothing leaves your browser.

Your plans

Your plans are stored in this browser, on this device only. Browsers can clear site data, so every plan above was read back just now rather than taken on trust — if one goes missing, it went missing here.

The route

Optional. A GPX gives you the measured distance and the hills; the official times come from your declared distances either way. Your file is read here in the browser and never uploaded.

Up to 5 MB. A route or a track, from any planner.

Your plan

Set a speed for each leg and how long you expect to stop. Every figure here moves as you type. Speeds are moving speeds — the stops are counted separately, in their own column.

On controls in the first 60 km, “leave by” is earlier than the closing time. That is correct. Those controls close on the relaxed line — distance ÷ 20 + 1h00 — which runs flatter than the 15 km/h minimum, so a rider who leaves at the closing time cannot reach the next control before it closes. The relaxation exists so that starting late is survivable, not so that the early legs can be ridden slowly. Leave by the earlier figure.

On the rows marked “tightened”, time in hand at departure is measured against the leave-by time rather than the closing time, and those two differ — so a stop there costs more margin than it lasts. The figure is right and it is the conservative one. The paragraph under the official times above explains why those controls work that way.

The standard rules for a randonneur brevet: opening times at 34/32/30/28 km/h, closing at 15/11.428 km/h, the first-60 km relaxation, and the published overall limits at 200, 300, 400, 600 and 1000 km.

How these times are worked out

Official times come from the organiser’s declared control distances, never from a measured route. A 205 km route declared as a 200 km brevet is calculated at 200 km.

Opening times use the maximum speeds — 34, 32, 30 and 28 km/h, applied band by band. Closing times use the minimums, 15 km/h to 600 km and 11.428 km/h beyond it, with the first-60 km relaxation. The total is rounded to the nearest minute once, at the end, never band by band. The published overall limits at 200, 300, 400, 600 and 1000 km apply to the finish and to nothing else: a control at 200 km on a 300 km brevet closes at 13:20, not 13:30.

The organiser’s published times govern. This is a planning aid, not an authority — check your brevet card and the organiser’s start sheet.
