Time in Hand

ACP brevet control times, verified

These are the opening, closing and latest-departure times this tool produces for every control distance on an ACP brevet, at all five event distances. They are not a description of what the calculator does — they are the 71 rows its tests are run against, rendered straight out of the engine. Change a number in the code and this page changes with it; there is no second copy to fall out of step.

Ruleset acp-brm@2024-01, verified on 30/07/2026 against the sources listed at the foot of this page. Times are elapsed from the official start, so hours run past 24 on the longer events.

The eleven values RUSA publishes

RUSA works these through by hand on its own calculator page. They are the values that matter most, because they are the only ones a rider can check against the governing body without doing the arithmetic themselves. Every one is reproduced exactly.

Every control distance, at every event distance

50 of these 71 rows are here to pin a specific rule rather than to be representative — the band edges, the first-60 km relaxation, and every finish, where the fixed overall limit either overrides the formula or happens to agree with it. Where a row exists for a reason, the reason is in the last column. The rest are company.

Leave-by is this tool's own figure and has no official counterpart: RUSA publishes arrival deadlines only. It is the latest a rider can leave a control and still meet the next binding deadline, costed band by band at the minimum speeds — which is not the same as the control's own closing time wherever a band edge, the relaxation or the finish limit falls between the two.

0 km00:0001:0000:59The start control needs no special case: the relaxation evaluated at zero, 0/20 + 1h00, is exactly the 1h00 the rules state.
1 km00:0201:0300:34
30 km00:5302:3002:01
59 km01:4403:5703:56Last control under the first-60 km relaxation. Closing is 59/20 + 1h00, not 59/15.
60 km01:4604:0004:00Where the relaxed line rejoins the minimum speed. 60/20 + 1h00 and 60/15 both give 04:00, so the relaxation buys no time overall.
61 km01:4804:0404:04First control past the relaxation, on the plain 15 km/h line.
100 km02:5606:4006:40
199 km05:5113:1613:16An intermediate a kilometre short of the finish closes on the formula, at 13:16. The finish limit does not reach back towards it.
200 km05:5313:3013:30The finish. The fixed 13:30 limit overrides the formula’s 13:20 — one of only two distances where it is more generous.

200 km05:5313:2013:20An intermediate here closes at 13:20, on the formula. 13:30 belongs to the finish of a 200 km event and to nothing else.

300 km09:0020:0020:00The finish. The fixed 20:00 limit equals the formula, so nothing is overridden.

What this was checked against

Where this verification stops

A verification that only says what it confirmed is half a verification. These are the points the research could not close, recorded so a rider can weigh them.

A control at exactly 200 km on a longer event
That it closes at 13:20 rather than 13:30 follows directly from the rules text, which ties each HH:MM limit to an event distance. It could not be confirmed against the live form-based calculator, which cannot be driven non-interactively. Every third-party implementation found during the research agrees.
Ties on the half minute
RUSA says “nearest minute” and ACP says “commercial rounded”, and neither states which way a tie goes. Rounding is half-up here, defensively: no value in the table below sits on a tie, so every published number is the same either way.

Two things this page is not

Official times come from the organiser’s declared control distances, never from a measured route. A 205 km route declared as a 200 km brevet is calculated at 200 km.

Intermediate control times are advisory under both ACP's and RUSA's current rules — the binding requirement is reaching the finish inside the overall limit. The algorithm here is still the official one printed on brevet cards and used for validation, and missing an intermediate close is still worth avoiding, but it is not automatic disqualification.

The organiser’s published times govern. This is a planning aid, not an authority — check your brevet card and the organiser’s start sheet.
